Sunday Mash Up: 08/12-18/2012

posted in: Weekly Mash-Up | 16

There were tons of great links this week. And before I get to the main list, I want to highlight a great article on the publishing industry and indie books in particular.

Check out David Vinjamuri‘s article: Publishing Is Broken, We’re Drowning In Indie Books – And That’s A Good Thing

Okay, now on to the list…

Writing Links:

Kait Nolan gives some good advice about Bad Reviews.

This one is from December of 2011, but I just read it and felt there are some of you, like me, that might could use the words of wisdom from Marcy Kennedy as she talks about how to handle negativity about your writing “job” from (usually) well-meaning relatives and friends.

Amanda Hocking says Some Things That Need to be Said about the hard work of being a writer.

Patricia Yager Delagrange has some fab advice for beginning writers.

Wonderful post by Kristen Lamb this week about Adding Dimension to Your Fiction Through Setting.

Publishing/Promotional Links:

If you’re an indie author, you know how important covers are. I just ran across this older post with links to 10 sites for pre-made covers by J.M. Madden. Even though the post isn’t a year old, two of the links were no longer active and a couple didn’t seem to have any pre-made covers that I could find. But still, the ones that do work have some cool covers.

Great advice for Managing Expectations. Indie Writers really need to read this.

Social Media, Fun and Other Links:

How important is Goodreads? Well, they now have TEN MILLION Members. That’s a lot of readers!

I love The Closer! Kyra Sedgwick is absolutely awesome as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson. I’ve been a fan from the first episode. Unfortunately, Sedgwick is leaving the show. There will be a spin-off though, Major Crimes, with a lot of the same crew. Will you watch?

Some of my WANA friends participated in a round robin. The Octopus Knows is a fun story written by 17 talented authors. The final episode was just recently posted – so relax and enjoy adventure!

Sarah Arrow helps you find Timely Images for Topical Blog Posts.

Katherine Ramsland discusses Serial Killers and the Supernatural on Psychology Today.

Christine Ashworth did a 3-part series about a very personal experience she had with fibroids and a very enlarged uterus. The symptoms are definitely something women need to be aware of.

Amy Shojai has a great post for you feline lovers about people-food cats love. You have to be careful what you feed them though, there are some things cat’s digestive systems can’t tolerate.

Lisa Hall-Wilson has some fantastic advice for girls/women about how to spot a real man and what to watch out for. I know a couple of young women I wish would heed this advice.

I of course want to give another shout out to Christy Hayes for her wonderful post in my Authors Give Back series. Thank you, Christy!

And if you missed any of my posts this week (it’s been a really busy week!) then check out the Beach Book Blast authors’ new releases. You’re too late to enter for that awesome Kindle Fire, but you can still pick up some great books. There’s something for everyone! I asked the authors about their genres, their previous worst jobs, what books inspired them in a non-writing way, and about their pets. Yeah. I was just a little nosy, but it was fun getting to know them all a little better.

Another WG2E Street Team teammate, Fabio Bueno, revealed the awesome cover for his new novel, WICKED SENSE, this week as well. Check it out. It’s gorgeous!

That’s it for this week. I hope you find something you can use or that entertains you. If you have a link to something interesting you read this past week, please put it in the comments so the rest of us can enjoy. As always, thanks for reading!

Thanks for the awesome links, especially the cat one. I had no idea cats like pumpkin and I’m a huge pumpkin fan. Just made a dessert with it this weekend. I know my older cat loves ice cream, but I’ll definitely have to see if she takes to pumpkin.

Thank you for stopping by. I’m glad you found some useful links. I really liked the cat one too. Love my kitty. Great pics of your cats on your website. Samantha loves black olives. She almost attacks me for them. Took them right off the pizza headed for my mouth the first time. Who knew? LOL 🙂

Wow Rhonda, what a feast! There’s a lot of helpful posts. Please forgive me for not coming by until today. I get overwhelmed very easy these days and there are so many posts. LOL! But, I did see that the Octopus story is finished on Laird’s blog. That was fun. And I loved Kristen’s post on Setting in our story. Well, there are so many. Thank you for all your hard work! 🙂
